Loose Ends

Privacy policy

Last updated 5 October 2026

The short version

No account. We never see your tasks. They stay on your iPhone, and the only other place they go is the app you choose to connect. The only thing we collect is a small amount of anonymous usage data, with no names and nothing you type or say in it.

Loose Ends is made by Tom Ayling, an independent developer. In this policy "we" means me and "the app" means Loose Ends for iPhone.

What we collect

WhatWhere it livesWhy
Your tasks, sessions, streak and settingsOn your iPhone onlySo the app works
Anything a connected app needs to sign you inYour iPhone's Keychain, and sent only to that appSo the app can read and close your tasks there
Anonymous usage dataSent to PostHog, in the EUTo see where people get stuck

We don't ask for your name, email address or phone number, and there is no account to make. There are no ads, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we don't sell or share your data.

What stays on your iPhone

Your tasks, session history, streak and settings are saved on your iPhone. We have no server that holds them, so nobody at Loose Ends can read them. The app asks permission before it uses Reminders, the microphone, notifications or alarms, and each one is optional.

Connected apps

You can connect another app to Loose Ends, such as Apple Reminders. The app reads your tasks from it on your iPhone and marks them done there when you clear them. Your tasks travel between your iPhone and that app directly. They never pass through us. If the app needs a sign-in token, it is kept in your iPhone's Keychain and sent only to that app. What the other app does with your data is covered by its own privacy policy.

Voice dictation

When you tap the microphone to say a task, the app uses Apple's speech recognition on your iPhone. The audio is not recorded, saved or sent to anyone. Only the words, as text, reach the task field.

Usage statistics

The app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog, an analytics service that acts as our data processor, using its EU cloud. Each event is a fixed label with a number, a yes or no, or a choice from a fixed list, such as that a page was viewed or a session finished. Nothing you type or say is ever included. No task names, no account names, no dictation.

Events carry a random ID that the software makes on your iPhone, which isn't linked to you or your Apple Account, plus basic details about the app and phone: the app version, your iPhone model, iOS version, language and time zone. PostHog doesn't store your IP address. It keeps events for up to a year and then deletes them.

Under the privacy rules that apply in the UK and EU, our reason for collecting this is our legitimate interest in finding out whether the app works for people, so we can fix it. PostHog's own policy is at posthog.com/privacy.

This website uses no cookies and no analytics. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which keeps ordinary server logs.

Children

Loose Ends isn't aimed at children. We don't ask for names or accounts, so we hold nothing that identifies a child, or anyone.

Your choices

If you have a question or a concern about your data, write to us. If you're in the UK or EU and we haven't dealt with it to your satisfaction, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Changes to this policy

If this changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
